The drive from Sydney Airport to UNSW Kensington
Kensington is on the eastern side of the city, south-east of the CBD. From the airport, the driver normally heads north-east and uses the main roads through the inner south towards the Anzac Parade area. In light traffic the trip can be short. At busy times it takes longer. The fixed fare does not change with traffic.
Tolls on the agreed route are part of the fixed fare. You do not pay extra at the end, and there is no meter running while you sit in a queue.
Where UNSW is and what is around it
The main UNSW campus is at Kensington. The nearby suburbs of Kingsford, Randwick and Kensington itself have a mix of houses, apartments and purpose-built student accommodation. Some students live on campus in a university residence. Others rent a room in a shared house or apartment.
Not sure exactly where your building is? That is fine. Give us the full street address in your booking. If you only know the name of the building, write that as well, and check the address on your accommodation confirmation before you fly.
Your first day: from the arrivals hall to your room
After a long flight, you clear immigration, collect your bags and pass through biosecurity. This can take some time, so do not worry if you are slow. We track your flight number, and the driver adjusts to the real landing time.
If you would like extra help, you can add the meet-and-greet extra for A$25. The driver waits with a name sign and helps with your luggage inside the terminal. Without it, the driver meets you in the arrivals area and we send you the meeting details by message.
Luggage for a full term or year
Students arriving to start a degree often carry several large bags. A Premium Sedan suits one or two people with up to two large bags and one carry-on bag. If you have three large bags, choose a Premium SUV such as a Kluger, Lexus RX, RAV4 or similar. For four or more large bags, or items such as a bike box or boxes, choose a People Mover such as a Kia Carnival or similar.
For international arrivals our booking form assumes at least one large bag and one carry-on bag for each passenger. It is better to add the true number so that the right vehicle is sent.
Going back to the airport at the end of term
When exams finish and you fly home, you can book the return trip from Kensington to T1 in advance. Add your pickup address, your flight time and your luggage count. The fare is fixed before the day, and you can pick a pickup time that leaves plenty of room before check-in.
