The end of a cruise is when you are least in the mood for a taxi rank. You have been away for days or weeks, your suitcases are heavier than when you left, and you may be tired after an early disembarkation. This page explains how to pre-book a cruise terminal to home taxi in Sydney at a fixed fare, from either White Bay at Balmain or the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay. You set up the booking before you leave, so on the day of your return there is nothing to arrange. It works for local passengers heading home and for visitors heading to a hotel or the airport.

Your exact fixed fare

Price your ride home

Enter the terminal as your pickup and your home address as the drop-off to see the exact fixed fare. Prices are fixed for standard sedan bookings with normal luggage; SUV and people mover options may cost more depending on passengers, luggage and pickup requirements.

Why book your return before you sail

Disembarkation is busy. Hundreds or thousands of passengers may leave the ship over the same few hours, and the kerb at the terminal can be crowded. A pre-booked pickup means your car is already assigned, and you are not competing for a rank. Booking before you leave also lets you set the fixed fare and vehicle size while you are still at home and thinking clearly.

Disembarkation timing

Cruise lines usually tell passengers their disembarkation timing on the final day, often based on a colour or number system, and the exact time can vary. We do not guess it for you. When you book, give us your ship, terminal and your best estimate of when you will be off, and contact us if the time changes. Since your fare is fixed, a later finish does not change what you pay.

Allow for the time it takes to collect your bags and clear the terminal. Passengers who take their own luggage off usually walk out earlier than those who leave bags for collection, so plan around your own arrangements.

Luggage and tired passengers

Cruise returns often bring more luggage than the outbound trip, with souvenirs, extra bags and sometimes mobility aids. Tell us at booking if anyone needs extra help, and declare all large bags, carry-ons and oversize items so the vehicle is right. Late-model Lexus or Toyota premium cars or similar are our standard, with SUVs and people movers for bigger loads. Baby capsules and booster seats are available free when requested at booking, and wheelchair-accessible vehicles can be requested subject to availability.

White Bay or Circular Quay: check your pickup point

Your ship will berth at either White Bay Cruise Terminal in Balmain or the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay. The two are in different parts of the city and the drive home is different, so tell us the correct terminal. Our White Bay page and Overseas Passenger Terminal page describe each in more detail.

Heading to the airport or a hotel instead

Not everyone comes home. Many cruise passengers travel on to the airport or a hotel. We can book the terminal to the airport as a fixed-fare trip. For international departures use our T1 page, and for domestic flights see the T2 and T3 page. Book the whole trip in one go to keep every step confirmed.

How to book

Use the calculator on this page. Type the terminal as the pickup, your home or hotel address as the destination, choose your vehicle, and add your phone and email. You will see the fixed fare and receive your confirmation. If you would like to talk it through, call us.

Frequently asked

The honest answers.

Can I book my ride home before I leave for the cruise?

Yes. Booking ahead means the pickup is arranged, and you can update us if your disembarkation time changes.

What if the ship arrives early or late?

Tell us if your timing changes. The fixed fare does not change because of an early or late arrival.

Which terminal do I give you?

Use the terminal on your cruise documents: White Bay Cruise Terminal at Balmain, or the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay.

Can you fit all my luggage?

With the right vehicle, yes. Declare your bags at booking and the vehicle steps up to fit them, so you see the fixed fare before you confirm.

Can you take me to the airport instead of home?

Yes. We book terminal-to-airport trips at a fixed fare. See our T1 International and T2 and T3 domestic pages.

Is this a silver service taxi for the cruise terminal?

No. We're Sydney Fixed Fare Taxi, an independent booking service, and we're not affiliated with any silver service taxi co-operative. Some customers look for a silver service style, fixed-fare alternative to a metered ride, and that is what we offer: the fare is agreed in writing before pickup, with no meter and no surge.
