Nelson Bay Day Trip from Sydney — a fixed fare for the day
A private driver for a full day in Port Stephens, with the fare fixed before you leave Sydney. We collect you in the morning, drive up to Nelson Bay, hold the car while you take a dolphin cruise, ride the sand dunes and lunch at the marina, and bring you home in the evening — one price, agreed in writing, no meter on the long coastal run.
Your stops, your pace.
A private driver holds the car at every stop — you set the order, we handle the road.
Port Stephens is home to a resident dolphin population year-round, with humpback whales passing in season. We drop you at the marina for a cruise and wait.
The largest moving coastal dunes in the Southern Hemisphere — sandboarding and 4WD tours run from Anna Bay, a short hop from Nelson Bay.
Calm, north-facing swimming bays and the climb to Tomaree Head lookout over the bay's entrance.
Fresh seafood at the Nelson Bay marina before the drive home — we are there when you finish.
A day in Nelson Bay.
Nelson Bay is the main town of Port Stephens, a blue-water bay about two and a half hours north of Sydney known for its resident bottlenose dolphins, its calm swimming beaches and the huge Stockton sand dunes nearby at Anna Bay. A day trip packs in a lot: a morning dolphin-watching cruise from the marina (humpback whales pass on their migration in season), an afternoon sandboarding or on a 4WD dune tour, a swim at Shoal Bay or Fingal Bay, and the short, steep walk up Tomaree Head for the view over the bay's entrance. With a private driver the logistics disappear — no three-hour bus each way, no hire car to park at the marina, no rush to make a return service. You set the plan, the car waits at each stop, and we handle the long drive both ways while you watch the coast roll past.
Why a fixed day rate
Port Stephens is far enough from Sydney that a metered fare for a full day would be unpredictable and steep, and rideshare apps will not commit to a return run this far north. A fixed day rate solves both: A$580 for a Premium Sedan, agreed in writing before you leave, covering the drive up, the waiting while you cruise and swim, and the drive home. Stay an extra hour on the beach or wait for the later dolphin cruise — the fare does not move. You are paying for a driver and a car for the day, with the coastal distance already built into one honest number.
Timing & logistics
The drive from Sydney to Nelson Bay is about two and a half hours each way via the M1 and Nelson Bay Road. A full day leaves Sydney in the morning, allows time for a cruise and the dunes with lunch in between, and is home in the evening. Holiday and summer weekend traffic on the M1 can add time — we build a buffer and the fixed fare holds. Dolphin cruises run to a timetable, so tell us your preferred cruise time and we plan the day around it.
One driver, one car, one price for the day.
Prices are fixed for the day's driving and waiting. SUV and people mover options cost more depending on your group, luggage and itinerary. Attraction entry, cruises and meals are not included. The day rate quoted at booking is the rate charged — no meter, no surge.

The honest answers.
What does the Nelson Bay day trip include?
A private driver and vehicle for the whole day at one fixed fare. We collect you in Sydney, drive to Nelson Bay in Port Stephens, hold the car while you cruise, ride the dunes, swim and lunch, and drive you home. The A$580 fixed fare covers the driving and waiting; cruise tickets, dune tours and meals are not included.
Is the A$580 fare fixed for the whole day?
Yes. The day rate is locked in writing before you leave Sydney and covers the drive up, the waiting at each stop, and the long drive home. Holiday traffic on the M1 or extra time at the beach does not change the fare. The number you see is the number you pay.
Can we fit in a dolphin cruise and the sand dunes in one day?
Yes — that is the most popular Port Stephens day plan. A morning dolphin cruise from the marina, the Stockton sand dunes at Anna Bay in the afternoon, and lunch at the waterfront in between. We plan the order around your cruise time so nothing is rushed.
What vehicle will we travel in?
A clean, late-model premium vehicle — a Lexus or Toyota sedan (Lexus ES, Camry or similar) for up to four, a Premium SUV (Kluger, Lexus RX or similar) for a bigger group or beach gear, or a Kia Carnival or similar people mover for larger parties. The exact vehicle is assigned by dispatch based on your group and availability.
Do you wait at the marina and the beaches, or is each stop a new fare?
We wait. A day trip is one booking — the driver holds the car while you cruise, swim or ride the dunes and is there when you come back. There is no second-pickup charge and no new fare for each stop. One car, one driver, one fixed price for the day.
How do we pay and what about the deposit?
A small A$10 deposit via Stripe secures the booking and goes towards your day rate. The balance is settled on the day by card on file, in-vehicle EFTPOS or cash. The total never exceeds the fixed day rate quoted at booking.
