Hunter Valley Day Trip from Sydney — a fixed fare for the day

A private driver for a full day in the wine country, with the price fixed before the first cellar door. We collect your group in Sydney, run you around the Pokolbin estates at your own pace, wait while you taste and while you eat, and bring everyone home safely — one fare, agreed in writing. Nobody has to stay sober to drive, and nobody is watching a meter while you compare a shiraz to a semillon.

What the day looks like

Your stops, your pace.

A private driver holds the car at every stop — you set the order, we handle the road.

Cellar doors at your pace

Tyrrell's, Audrey Wilkinson, Brokenwood, McGuigan and dozens of smaller estates around Pokolbin — visit four or five with a driver who knows the back roads between them.

Lunch among the vines

Book a long lunch at a vineyard restaurant; we drop you at the door and are there when you finish, however long it runs.

Cheese, chocolate & providores

The Hunter Valley Cheese Co., Binnorie Dairy and the local chocolate makers break up a day of tastings.

A designated driver for the group

Nobody draws the short straw. Everyone tastes, nobody drives, and the fare is fixed before you leave Sydney.

The destination

A day in Hunter Valley.

The Hunter Valley is Australia's oldest wine region, a two-hour run north of Sydney around the township of Pokolbin. Between Broke Road and Hermitage Road sit the big names — Tyrrell's, Brokenwood, Audrey Wilkinson, McGuigan — and dozens of smaller cellar doors, alongside cheese makers, chocolate providores and vineyard restaurants. A day trip with a private driver is the way most groups do it: a hen weekend, an anniversary couple, four friends who would rather all taste than nominate a driver. You choose the estates, we know the roads between them and the gates that keep closing, and the car waits at every stop. We will happily build in a long vineyard lunch and a stop for cheese on the way out. For larger groups a people mover keeps everyone together; tell us the numbers when you book and we will match the vehicle to the day.

Why a fixed day rate

Wine-country designated-driver services charge by the hour with a multi-hour minimum, so the cost climbs the longer your lunch runs. A metered taxi runs the meter at every cellar door and in every gap between them. Our fixed day rate is the opposite: A$520 for a Premium Sedan, agreed in writing before you leave Sydney, covering the drive up, the waiting at every estate and restaurant, and the drive home. Linger over lunch, add a fifth cellar door, sit in the car park while the last bottle is wrapped — the fare does not move. You are hiring a driver and a car for the day, not paying for the clock.

Timing & logistics

The drive from Sydney to Pokolbin is about two hours each way via the M1 and the Hunter Expressway. A good wine day leaves Sydney mid-morning, fits in four or five cellar doors and a long lunch, and is home in the evening. Friday and Sunday afternoon traffic on the M1 can add time — we build a buffer and the fixed fare holds. Cellar doors generally close around 5pm, so we plan the order of the day backwards from your lunch booking.

Frequently asked

The honest answers.

What does the Hunter Valley day trip include?

A private driver and vehicle for the whole day at one fixed fare. We collect your group in Sydney, drive to the Pokolbin wine region, wait while you visit cellar doors and lunch, and drive everyone home. The A$520 fixed fare covers the driving and waiting; tastings, lunch and any purchases are not included.

Can the driver wait while we visit several wineries?

Yes — that is the whole point of a day trip. The driver holds the car at each cellar door and restaurant and is there when you come back. Visit four or five estates and a long lunch; there is no second-pickup charge and the fixed day rate does not change.

Is A$520 cheaper than an hourly designated-driver service?

For a full day, usually yes — hourly wine-tour services charge per hour with a multi-hour minimum, so a long lunch pushes the total up. Our A$520 day rate is fixed regardless of how long the day runs. We are happy for you to compare both before booking.

Will the wine we buy fit in the car?

A Premium Sedan boot fits several cases comfortably; a Premium SUV (A$600 day rate) fits a serious cellar-door haul plus the group's bags. If you are planning to buy by the case, book the SUV — same fixed-fare guarantee, no problem with the load.

What vehicle will we travel in?

A clean, late-model premium vehicle — a Lexus or Toyota sedan (Lexus ES, Camry or similar) for up to four, a Premium SUV (Kluger, Lexus RX or similar) for a bigger group or more luggage, or a Kia Carnival or similar people mover for larger parties. The exact vehicle is assigned by dispatch based on your numbers and availability.

Can you do a hen party or a larger group?

Yes — a people mover keeps a larger group together for the day at one fixed rate, which usually works out better than several separate cars. Tell us the group size and your rough plan when you book and we will match the vehicle and sketch the day.

How do we pay and what about the deposit?

A small A$10 deposit via Stripe secures the booking and goes towards your day rate. The balance is settled on the day by card on file, in-vehicle EFTPOS or cash. The total never exceeds the fixed day rate quoted at booking.
