Plan around the traffic, not against it
Drive time Sydney Airport to Wollongong CBD is about 1 hour 15 minutes in normal traffic via the M1 and Princes Motorway. The Mt Ousley descent into Wollongong is the one variable — when wet, large trucks slow the descent and add 10–15 minutes.
